Land disputes
The borders never settle. At the end of every season the standings redraw the map: the champion pushes its borders furthest, playoff teams and winning records gain ground, and losing records cede it.
Borders at the founding: every territory holds 5.63M km², and the first redraw comes at the end of season one. Former national borders are drawn faintly. The territories
How the map redraws Agreed
Each finish gains a share of a founding territory's land (5.63M km²). Factions with losing records pay for it in proportion to how far below .500 they finished: the worse the record, the more land they cede. No faction is cut below 33% of its founding land, and land crosses the sea when a winner has no paying neighbour.
| Finish | Share | Land gained |
|---|---|---|
| Champion | +6% | ▲ +338,000 km² |
| Runner-up | +4% | ▲ +225,000 km² |
| Conference finalist | +3% | ▲ +169,000 km² |
| Playoff team | +2% | ▲ +113,000 km² |
| Winning record | +1.5% | ▲ +84,000 km² |
| Even record | 0% | No change |
| Losing record | ▼ Pays its share, more the further below .500 | |
Winners take land from the paying factions with the least distance overall: across a shared border where there is one, otherwise the payer's nearest coast. Land only ever moves in whole parcels of up to 60,000 km², so every change lands within a parcel of its target and the world's land stays the same.

Season by season
No season has ended yet. When one does, its final standings go into STANDINGS in league.py and the map redraws itself: this column then shows what every faction gained or ceded, and where the land came from.
