    League history

    From the Cascade to kickoff

The story so far, as the working document tells it. Anything marked open is still being decided.

    The story

    1. Year zero

      The Cascade Agreed

A hundred asteroid strikes fall across the globe, on every continent and in every ocean. Nowhere is untouched, and the old states and alliances can't survive it.

The number is agreed; where the strikes fell, the date and their effects are still open (D01, D02).

    2. The aftermath

      Twenty-four factions Agreed

From the wreckage, twenty-four factions rise. Each carves out a territory, and between them they redraw the geopolitical map of the world.

Every territory starts with the same land; where the borders run is a proposal (D03).

    3. 15 to 20 years

      Reconstruction Open

The factions rebuild. Some cities keep their old names; others are founded new in the rebuilt world. Travel, trade and broadcasting slowly reconnect the territories.

15 to 20 years was an early suggestion, not an approved timeline (D02).

    4. One game

      The world's game Agreed

Through the recovery, football becomes the one thing the whole world shares. It's agreed as the globe's main unifying game, and its highest competition carries more prestige than any other prize.

    5. Ever since

      The frontier game Agreed

The borders never settle. Every season ends with the map redrawn by the standings: the champion pushes its borders furthest, the playoff teams and winning records gain ground, and the losing records cede it, overseas if need be.

    6. Founding

      The Global Frontier League Agreed

One team for every faction: twenty-four franchises. Each GM claims a territory, chooses a real or fictional city within it, and raises the faction's banner.

    7. Season one

      Kickoff Open

A founding draft or auction assembles the first rosters, then the first season is played.

Founding draft or auction (D11), software and rating pool (D06) and the calendar (D16) are open.

    Seasons

No GFL season has been played yet. From season one, every champion is recorded here and in the trophy room.

Meanwhile the season tracker holds NFL data for 2026: the 2026 overview.

    Revision log

    • v0.3The Cascade becomes 100 strikes. 24 factions carve up the world; each GM claims one territory, a real or fictional city in it, and the faction's banner. Football is the world's unifying game. Every territory starts with the same land, and the standings redraw the borders at each season's end: champion +6%, runner-up +4%, conference finalists +3%, other playoff teams +2%, winning records +1.5%, losing records paying, none below 33% of its starting land. The ten proposed unions and their flags are retired.2 Oct 2026
    • v0.2Added six map and flag plates: impact map, geopolitical map, and two federation flag sets with their maps. All provisional.1 Oct 2026
    • v0.1Created the project record: the setting, 24 teams and GM naming rights, a proposed constitution, the chart review and the franchise register.1 Oct 2026
